Planned controlled burn on grassland
Residents of Williams Landing are advised of a planned controlled burn on Tuesday 28 May 2024 in Grassland Reserve B, along Charsworth Way. This initiative, organised by Practical Ecology and Southern Ecosystems Management, is designed to maintain the ecological balance of the area while minimising the risk of bushfires.
Site preparation will commence at 9am and the burn is expected to start around 10am, subject to favourable weather conditions between 8am and 6pm.
Experienced contractors will oversee the burns, making careful assessments of weather conditions, vegetation dryness and site geography before proceeding. The controlled burns will be conducted in small sections, with constant monitoring to ensure the safety of all involved.
Controlled burns play an important role in the management of grassland reserves, helping to control weeds, promote the germination of native seeds and reduce fuel loads. Cedar Woods Properties, the company responsible for managing the Grassland Reserves, is committed to the conservation of rare and endangered plant and animal species and their habitats.
Residents with concerns about smoke exposure are encouraged to seek medical advice or contact the Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24. Motorists are urged to take care when driving near the burn area and to use their headlights when visibility is reduced.
For up-to-date information on controlled burns, residents can download the Vic Emergency app or visit the website. Further enquiries can be made to Practical Ecology on (03) 9484 1555.
Let's work together for the safety of our community and the preservation of Williams Landing's natural environment.
