Planned Controlled Burning - Williams Landing Grassland, Rothbury Parkway - Mon 8th July 2024

COURTESY NOTIFICATION - PLANNED Burn at WILLIAMS LANDING GRASSLAND RESERVES, WILLIAMS LANDING

Practical Ecology and Southern Ecosystems Management is planning to conduct controlled burning at:

-Grassland Reserve A – (bounded by Rothbury Parkway, Stevenson Drive, Lukis Ave and Merryfield Circuit), Williams Landing on Monday 8th July, 2024.

Crews will be on site from 9am preparing the area, and the burn will start from approximately 10am.

We understand it is currently school holidays, therefore if you have children who are curious about the burning-off, we kindly ask that they remain well away from the burning-off area, and out of the direction of any smoke.

The controlled burn will only go ahead provided weather and other conditions are suitable, between 8am and 6pm.

Contractors conducting the burns are experienced and trained in this work. Before every burn, we will carefully assess the weather, dryness of the vegetation and site geography. We will burn small sections at a time and monitor fire grounds until the areas are declared safe.

On a periodic cycle, informed by ecological monitoring of the grasslands, the use of fire helps control weeds, germinate indigenous seed, reduce fuel loads and to reduce the impact of wildfires on public land.

The Grassland Reserves in Williams Landing are managed by Cedar Woods Properties for the conservation of rare and threatened flora and fauna species and their habitat. If you have further enquiries about the management of the grasslands, please find contact details online at www.cedarwoods.com.au/Contact-Us.

If you have health queries relating to smoke exposure you should seek medical advice or call Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24.

If you are driving near a planned burn, you should turn on your headlights and take extra care in the rare event that road visibility is affected. Traffic will be managed where smoke may affect local roads.

If you require up-to-date information about controlled burns in your area, please download the Vic Emergency app or visit the website at https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/.
